Aubameyang’s Arsenal Impact

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s start to life at Arsenal has been almost flawless, with six goals and one assist in seven games so far.

He’s quickly become a captaincy favourite in Sky Sports Fantasy Football, with only Christian Eriksen (34) and Danny Welbeck (22) having a better start, points-wise, to April than Aubameyang (21).

Combine this red hot form with a favourable final few fixtures, and the Arsenal forward is a must-have.

Aubameyang’s clinical touch is something the Gunners have been missing all season, with the Gabon international boasting a 40 per cent conversion rate in the Premier League so far.

When given the chance, he will score, and he will get plenty of those chances between now and the end of the season.

Arsenal’s upcoming opponents include West Ham, who concede the third-highest shots per game in the league (14.6), a Newcastle side with the league’s lowest average possession (43.3 per cent) and Huddersfield, fourth in the division for most goals conceded (54).

All three are games that the Gunners should not only win then, but win significantly – even more so with Aubameyang leading the line.

The former Dortmund man is proving a menace already, averaging 2.4 shots, 0.9 dribbles and one key pass per game.

And his impact on the team is clear. In the games since his arrival, Arsenal have actually averaged fewer chances created, less possession and fewer passes forward.

However, their shot accuracy has increased from 53 per cent to 63 per cent, and their goals per game is up to 2.14 from 1.84 – with him appearing to be the missing piece they were looking for.

There have been questions over Aubameyang in the big games so far, with him drawing a blank at Tottenham and missing from the spot against Manchester City.

However, such questions can be answered by his records against big teams in the past. The forward has been involved in 10 goals in 17 games against Bayern Munich, and six in six against Real Madrid.

With Manchester United, Leicester and Burnley all coming up before the season is out, Aubameyang has the chance to put those doubts to rest too, and is his current form, you wouldn’t bet against him doing so.
