The LA Clippers fell to the Sacramento Kings 113-110 in a matinee game on the Staples Center court this Sunday. For the first time this season, the Angelenos lost two straight games after losing to the Boston Celtics on Friday.
“We have already had a couple of games of these, in early hours, that we have not been able to have that spark. Our stars didn’t show that energy, but I think the bench did a great job, they brought out the breed, ”Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said.
The starting squad of the Angelenos that jumped to the floor was with Kawhi Leonard, Nicolas Batum, Serge Ibaka, Reggie Jackson and Luke Kennard, the quintet combined for 53 points. While the bench formed by Marcus Morris, Ivica Zubac, Lou Williams and Terance Mann, surpassed them combining for 57 units.
“Kawhi was a bit worn out. The group in general felt tired legs and could not make shots. Our headlines didn’t carry much, ”Lue said.
For the second game in a row, the Clippers were without one of their superstars in Paul George due to swelling in his right toe. There is no specific time for its return, as it depends on the inflammation going down. His absence has coincided with the last defeats of the Angelenos.
“(Paul George) is a little disappointed, especially with the way he has been playing,” said Ty Lue.
Besides Paul George, Patrick Beverly has missed the last eight games with a knee injury. Prior to the game against Kings, he was seen exercising on the court.
Sacramento, for its part, is going through a positive inertia of four wins in a row. De’Aaron Fox had a great performance of 36 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists against Clippers.
“I think his speed and speed hurt us. He was able to attack us throughout the game, regardless of the one-on-one coverage we sent him. He was able to get into the paint and wreak havoc, ”said coach Lue of Fox’s performance.
One of the strengths for the Clippers this season has been their effectiveness from the perimeter. It was not the case against Kings, especially without Paul George, as they completed just eight 3-pointers of 28 attempts.
“Some of the shots went in and out. Our pace was very slow today for most of the game. Credit to Sacramento, they did a good job. They came ready, ”said Kawhi Leonard who finished with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Clippers now have two days to physically recover before the next game when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
