The Central government released an updated list of groups of people to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 in phase I of the immunization process, indicates a new Ministerial Resolution.

According to Ministerial Resolution No. 161-2021 / MINSA, published last Wednesday night in El Peruano, there are three phases of vaccination subject to the availability of doses throughout the country. The modification was made in phase I, but phase II and III maintain the same beneficiaries.

The first phase aims to “protect the integrity of the Health System and continuity of basic services.” This will include:

  1. Any person who provides services, regardless of the nature of their employment or contractual relationship, in the different instances of the health sector.
  2. Personnel of the Armed Forces and Police.
  3. Firefighters, Red Cross.
  4. Security personnel, serenazgo, brigadistas, and cleaning personnel.
  5. Health Students.
  6. Members of the Electoral Tables.

Meanwhile, the second phase will seek to “reduce severe morbidity and mortality in the population at greatest risk.” In it are:

  1. Any person who provides services, regardless of the nature of their employment or contractual relationship, in the different instances of the health sector.
  2. Adults aged 60 years and over.
  3. People with Comorbidity to prioritize.
  4. Population of native or indigenous communities.
  5. Staff of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) and persons deprived of liberty.

Finally, at third base it is expected to “reduce the transmission of infection in continuity and generate herd immunity.” People between 18 and 59 years old will be vaccinated there.

It is important to note that a group of people included in the first phase will receive the first batch of one million vaccines against COVID-19 from the Sinopharm laboratory, doses that are to arrive in the country in the next few days.

Meanwhile, President Francisco Sagasti indicated that he has sent the Sinopharm company a second contract for the purchase of half a million doses that will arrive in February and 1.5 million in March. They will serve to continue with the vaccination process for the members of the first phase.
