Chelsea step up Cherki deal

rayan-cherki-lyon-ligue-1 Chelsea have held talks with Rayan Cherki's representatives.

Chelsea are in the market for a Mason Mount replacement and Cherki could be the perfect successor. Lyon's attacking midfielder registered 11 goal contributions last term and heavily impressed at this summer's Under-21 European Championship.

The Frenchman is valued at around €50m (£42.7m) but Chelsea believe an agreement can be found nearer to the €40m (£34.1m) mark, with Lyon said to be in a difficult financial position.

Blues scouts were in attendance for several of Cherki's games last season and it appears as though Pochettino has given the green light to accelerate their interest.

AC Milan have also been credited with an interest in the 19-year-old, however, the west London club are thought to be the frontrunners.

Chelsea are due to fly to the United States in the coming days, with their first pre-season match commencing on 19th July against Wrexham, before facing Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season, which begins in the second week of August.

There will most likely be a willingness to finalise a deal before the pre-season tour.

Blues close in on Caicedo

Football Insider: Chelsea are nearing an agreement with Brighton over an £80m deal for midfielder Moisés Caicedo.

Chelsea are reportedly confident of finalising a deal for the highly rated 21-year-old, who has already agreed personal terms.

The 32-cap Ecaudor international was subjected to bids from Arsenal in the January transfer window, but their focus has turned towards West Ham United captain Declan Rice this summer, with the proposed transfer almost complete.

That left Chelsea as the leading candidate to land Caicedo, and he now looks set to depart the Seagulls in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge, despite the prospect of no European football next year.

Chelsea contact for Franca

Globo Esporte: Chelsea have made contact with Flamengo over 19-year-old attacking midfielder Matheus Franca. This one is still at a very early stage, but the Blues clearly see an opportunity to snap up an exciting Brazilian talent.

Flamengo do have a price in mind, though. They're asking for €25m (£21m) plus add-ons for Franca, so Chelsea will have to make a financial commitment, here. There's no getting Franca on the cheap.

But as Chelsea continue to offload players, they may find that Franca is another bright gem to build the future of their midfield around.

Hudson-Odoi decision

The Athletic: Blues winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has decided to leave Chelsea this summer. The winger - who was one of the most in-demand young players in the world a few years ago - believes he must depart the club if he's to find regular first-team football.

Hudson-Odoi spent last season on loan with Bayer Leverkusen and still has a year left on his Chelsea contract. The feeling is that the Blues were open to selling him anyway, and this might just speed the process up.

Nottingham Forest, Fulham and AC Milan are all interested in signing him.
