US President Joe Biden said Friday that his predecessor, Donald Trump, should not receive classified intelligence reports, as is usual with former presidents.

I just think there is no need for me to have the intelligence reports. What is the value of giving an intelligence report? What impact does it have, other than the fact that it might slip away and say something?“Biden said in an interview with CBS Evening News.

The new Democratic president cited the “erratic behavior”Of Trump in relation to the insurrection of January 6, when he is accused of encouraging his followers to go to Congress to prevent legislators from certifying Biden’s electoral victory.

Asked again about his fears in case Trump continues to have access to this type of confidential information, the president said: “PrefI want not to speculate out loud”.

By tradition and as a deference, former US presidents have access to intelligence reports once they leave office, but the White House has the final say on whether Trump should receive them or not.

Trump, who is awaiting impeachment in the Senate, insisted for weeks that his election had been stolen, despite overwhelming evidence to deny it and losing dozens of legal processes.

While in the White House, Trump generated constant concern in intelligence agencies.

In May 2017, he reportedly shared classified information in a meeting with the Russian foreign minister and ambassador. He also publicly questioned reports from the US intelligence services that Russia intervened in the 2016 elections.

The former president has already been indicted by the House of Representatives for inciting an insurrection on Capitol Hill, which left five dead, and will face a trial in the Senate next week.

Last year he had been charged for the first time for trying to force Ukraine to interfere in the November 3 elections in his favor.

Many critics of Trump have expressed fears that the Republican mogul could leak information vital to national security.
