Real Madrid are a high-flying team when they step into the rival area. In 21 games, Zidane’s team have scored nine goals in the league this season (24% of their 34 goals), the same ones that they got all last season. No other team in the championship has that many. Granada follows with seven, although the one that depends the most on that execution is curiously Huesca: 5 of the bottom 18 goals (28%) have been headed.

Casemiro, whose header led to Varane’s second goal, leads the league cast with three goals. Benzema has two and Mariano, Modric, Lucas Vázquez and Varane have one each. Heading goals have earned Real Madrid four points. In addition to the nine in the league, the white players have scored another three header goals in the Champions League (one by Ramos and two by Benzema) and another in the Cup (by Militao).

It was in the first round match against Huesca that the season’s first header goal came. Marked it Benzema to close the 4-1 account at Di Stéfano. Three days later, against Inter in the Champions League, Sergio Ramos scored 2-0 in the suffered victory (3-2) against the nerazzurri. On the tenth day, Mariano He quickly opened the scoring against Villarreal (1-1) also with his head.

December was a prolific month in head goals. This is how Benzema scored the two that gave Madrid the victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach to resolve the classification for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Three days later Casemiro opened the scoring in the derby against Atlético and three days later Benzema leads the victory against Athletic. Two more goals would still arrive before the end of the year: Casemiro’s against Granada and Modric’s in Elche.

Lucas Vázquez opened the 2021 madridista with his header to Celta in the 6th minute. The last three headed goals have been away from home: Militao in Copa al Alcoyano, Casemiro in Mendizorroza and the latter from Varane in Huesca.
