Barnes now 'priority'

Harvey Barnes for Leicester City

Fabrizio Romano: Leicester City midfielder Harvey Barnes is now an absolute priority for Newcastle this summer. Romano told CaughtOffside that he understands the Magpies 'will be busy' over the next couple of weeks as they try to get players in.

Barnes seems closest, though. The Foxes winger has been heavily linked with Newcastle and Romano claims it's now come down to 'key details'. That would certainly suggest that something will happen sooner rather than later.

Saint-Maximin out

TalkSport: If Barnes is to come in, Newcastle must make some space for him. They now actively hope to do that by shipping off Allan Saint-Maximin to Saudi Arabia.

It's said that talks between Saint-Maximin's people and Saudi club Al Ahli are at 'very early stages', but the grand plan at St James' Park is to move the Frenchman on and then sign Barnes for around £35m after Leicester's relegation.

It's a far cry from a couple of seasons ago when Saint-Maximin was talked about as an £80m player.

Saint-Maximin was a one-man show for Newcastle a couple of seasons ago but has found his role diminished under Eddie Howe. Steve Bruce's style essentially relied on individual quality to create, allowing the winger to play to his strengths. But Newcastle's evolution under Howe leaves far less room for that style of player - and now the Magpies will likely move him on.

Disasi agrees terms

Foot Mercato: AS Monaco star Axel Disasi now looks likely to move to Newcastle this summer after agreeing terms with the club. The 25-year-old - highly sought-after this summer - is happy to make the move and will now wait on his club.

That seems to be the biggest part of this one. Newcastle haven't actually agreed to any terms with Monaco over a transfer. Without that, any agreement with Disasi counts for little.

Expect more on this one over the coming weeks. Disasi will likely transfer to St James', but there's a little way to go yet.

Magpies consider David swoop

L'Équipe (via Inside Futbol): Newcastle United are considering a move for Lille forward Jonathan David.

The Magpies are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old and a formal offer is being considered, but outgoings may need to take place first due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

David netted 24 goals in Ligue 1 last term, which was only five fewer than Kylian Mbappé's tally, helping his side achieve a fifth-placed finish.

Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the 40-cap Canada international and could join the race if Harry Kane departs.

Chiesa interested in Newcastle move

Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness): Juventus winger Federico Chiesa would ‘gladly listen' to proposals from Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old wouldn't mind starting a new chapter elsewhere after falling out of favour at Juve due to Massimiliano Allegri's 3-5-2 formation.

The Turin club want at least €55m (£47m) for the Italy international after spending a similar amount to sign him permanently from Fiorentina last summer.

Chiesa was limited to just six league starts last season, although he registered seven goal contributions across 21 appearances in total.

Liverpool have also been credited with an interest, but they would likely need to get rid of a forward to facilitate any forthcoming proposal.

Newcastle alerted by Félix omission

Chronicle Live: Newcastle have been alerted by João Félix's omission from Atletico Madrid training.

Félix doesn't appear to be in Diego Simeone's plans next season after being made to train with the academy, whilst also losing his No 7 shirt to Antoine Griezmann.

The 23-year-old has been offered to the Magpies, but any forthcoming move would likely be a loan deal that would require a lofty £11m fee.

The forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea, where he netted four league goals in 16 appearances.

With Newcastle advancing in a deal to sign Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, it remains to be seen whether they will look to also pursue a deal for Félix.
