Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly in negotiations for PSG star Pablo Sarabia and the Spaniard could help to level up Julen Lopetegui's midfield at Molineux.

What's the word?

According to reports in Spain, which were later confirmed by The Athletic's Steve Madeley, Lopetegui could be closing in on his second signing as Wolves boss, having already purchased Matheus Cunha from fellow European giants Atletico Madrid.

Madeley tweeted:

"Wolves are in talks with Paris Saint Germain over a deal for attacking midfielder Pablo Sarabia."

It is unclear whether Wolves will pursue a permanent or loan deal for the Spain international but given that he is now 30 and has just 18 months left on his contract with Les Parisiens, he could arrive at Molineux for a potential bargain.

An upgrade to Wolves' midfield?

While Sarabia has struggled for regular game time under new manager Christophe Galtier at PSG so far this campaign, his performances on loan at Sporting Lisbon last season suggest that he could be a quality addition at Molineux.

The former Sevilla man would notch a remarkable 21 goals and 10 assists in just 45 appearances for the Portuguese side in all competitions, featuring alongside Matheus Nunes in the midfield for Ruben Amorim's side.

Under former manager Bruno Lage, it appeared unlikely that Wolves as a collective would reach 21 goals in the Premier League this season and while things have improved under Lopetegui, it seems clear that the Spanish boss is still missing a creative midfielder in the ilk of Sarabia.

Ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was full of praise for the Spain international during his time managing PSG, applauding the midfielder's efforts with and without the ball.

He said:

"Pablo is really impressive. He runs well, with and without a ball. His game without the ball is a great example. He plays with a lot of intensity and does not stop [working] defensively."

While Lopetegui is blessed with midfield talents such as Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, neither would be described as strong runners who can play with intensity, which is emphasised by them having the unfortunate statistic of being dribbled past more times than the rest of Wolves' squad so far this campaign.

Only Moutinho has more than one assist in the Premier League this season so adding a player with flair and creativity such as Sarabia could be a great way for Lopetegui to improve his midfield options and potentially distance the Old Gold from any relegation battle in the second half of the season.
